DEAN GROWING UP
Dean was four years old when their mother was killed. On his
fathers orders, he took baby Sam and ran from the house, without having
seen exactly what was happening. From that time onwards, he followed his
fathers instructions, learning to fight demons and protect Sammy. When he was around 6 or 7
years old, he learnt to shoot, with his father training him by using
bottles for target practice. He bullseyed every one of them. When Dean
was 10 years old, Sam was attacked by a Shtriga while they were in a motel in Wisconsin. Dean
was supposed to have been looking after him, but had left him alone.
Luckily John appeared in time to save Sam, but Dean carried the guilt
with him for a long time. By the time Dean was 16 years old, John was
taking him along on hunts. Dean told this to Gordon that he was 16 when
he killed a vampire and later burned his body. This as the time when he
embraced the life.
He is major fan of classic rock music and heavy metal. He always wears a brass amulet on a long black cloth band necklace.n the episode A Very Supernatural Christmas, the necklace is revealed to be a gift from Sam on Christmas Day, 1991. The amulet was originally meant for John, but after their father yet again failed to come home for Christmas, Sam gave it to Dean instead, saying "Dad lied to me, I want you to have it," and because Dean desperately tried to give him a good Christmas. In addition to the amulet, Dean always wears a silver ring on his right ring finger. He also has a small black tattoo on the upper left side of his chest, it is a protective plated pentagram with rays of the sun surrounding it.
Dean also appears to be a fan of Jack Nicholson, and possibly watches Oprah. He tends to make light of some of his and Sam's adventures, and is known to use crude humor and make sexual innuendos. Dean is terrified of flying, and claims that it is the reason why he drives everywhere. Despite his working knowledge of existence beyond death he is adversarial towards religion and does not believe in god. He values his family and their safety more than anything else, even going so far as to kill a demon and its human host in order to save Sam's life, as well as sell his own soul to save Sam's life.
DEAN - LIVING AND DYING
When Dean accidentally electrocuted himself, he was given only
weeks to live by the doctors. Despite this, Sam searched for a way out
and took Dean to see a faith
healer. Although the faith healer was not actually one (he was
channeling a reaper), Dean was still returned to full health. He still
feels that he shouldn't have been allowed to live, as his recovery left
another man dead. A few months later, he almost died after the car crash
that The Demon caused. He was in a coma and encountered a reaper who
informed him it was his time. He refused to go, and at the last moment,
John gave his life in exchange for Dean's, yet again leaving Dean with
severe feelings of guilt. According to police records, Dean Winchester was assumed dead due to the
shapeshifter who died while disguised as him. However, his recent arrest
for a murder (which he didn't commit) has led the police to change
their assumptions about his current status. He was killed by hellhounds in the season 3 finale No Rest For The Wicked ,as his deal's time was up.
In the last scene he was shown in Hell.
THE DEAL
When Sam was killed, it broke
Dean. He did the one thing he could to get his brother back - he offered
his soul in a deal with a Crossroads Demon. The deal gave him Sam back,
but gave him only a year to live. The caveat was that if they tried to
break the deal in any way, Sam would die instantly. Sam tired to save
him but wasn't stressful and dean died in season three finale No Rest For The Wicked.
In season 4, he was
pulled out of Hell by Castiel, who told him that God has plans for him.
In
season 5, he is on the verge of fulfilling prophecy
as the one who will somehow stop Lucifer.
SKILLS AND ABILITIEs
Due to his father's training and his years of
experience, Dean has several notable advantages for a human and is a
formidable hunter and combatant. He is superbly proficient in
hand-to-hand/close quarters combat and has demonstrated proficiency in
knife fighting as well, using a blade on several occasions. He is an
exceptional shot, capable of achieving excellent accuracy with most
weapons, and is well-versed in the use of multiple types of firearms,
although he prefers his Colt 1911 and sawed-off shotgun. He also
possesses considerable demolitions training and apparently is
knowledgeable in the science of chemistry, as he has been shown to be
capable of making improvised explosive devices through the use of common
chemicals. Dean is extremely proficient at tracking, hunting and
killing various supernatural creatures and has considerable knowledge of
these creatures, their habits, weaknesses, appearance, ways of
disguising themselves among humans, methods of killing, and where they
normally prefer to live and hunt. In addition to his combat skills, Dean
is a skilled driver and a accomplished mechanic. He knows the inner
workings of the Impala so well that he can often detect when something
is wrong with his "baby" merely by listening closely. He also rebuilt it
following the accident at the end of Series 1.
He has demonstrated great proficiency at reading and
manipulating people and assessing a given situation through observation,
is a competent con artist, and is knowledgeable in how police, the fire
department and various other agencies-such as the FBI, Home
Land Security and Center for Disease Control operate and respond to
emergencies. Dean is also highly adept at escape and evasion, and can
effectively remain unseen and move silently when the situation requires
stealth. He is highly resourceful as well, is capable of quickly
disabling and hacking various electronic devices-such as home security
systems-and can quickly bypass (pick) most standard locks.
SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL
Lucifer's prison has been opened by Sam's successful attempt to kill
Lilith. As the gate to Hell fully opens, the Winchester brothers are
rescued by an unknown force and teleported into a plane, watching in
horror the start of the Apocalypse. In an encounter with the prophet
Chuck it is revealed that Castiel was blown to pieces by an Archangel.
When they try to figure out what to do next, they are attacked by their
old enemy Meg and a possessed Bobby. The brothers learn that there is a
weapon strong enough to defeat the Devil—Michael's Sword. They set off
to find it, but instead burst upon Zachariah, who reveals that Dean is
in fact Michael's Sword, the human vessel of the Archangel
Michael. However, he refuses to provide his mind and body for the
angels' plans even when Zachariah threatens to kill Sam and Bobby. As
Zachariah begins to torture Sam and Dean, Castiel, miraculously revived,
appears and tells him to leave. Meanwhile, Lucifer is trying to
convince his own vessel, a man whose family has been slaughtered by a
killer, to let him take over his body so he can face God and seek
justice.
GOOD GOD, Y'ALL
Bobby is still in the hospital and quite bitter about being in a
wheelchair. When Castiel arrives, Bobby orders him to heal him, but
Castiel says he's been cut off from Heaven. He tells Dean that he wants
to find God,
the only one who can defeat Lucifer. Castiel borrows Dean's pendant,
which has the ability to indicate God's presence by glowing brightly.
Suddenly, Bobby receives a frantic call from his hunter friend Rufus,
who is in a town swarming with demons. Sam and Dean go to the town and
can't find Rufus, but instead find Ellen Harvelle. She and Jo have been
hunting together and Jo has disappeared like Rufus. When they do find Jo
and Rufus, they appear to be possessed by demons—and strangely, they
seem to think Sam, Dean and the others are also possessed. In fact, the
demons are no demons at all, but hallucinations brought about by War, one of the
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Sam and Dean hunt him down and cut off
his ring finger, because his ring controls the hallucinations. In the
end, Sam tells Dean he thinks that they should go their separate ways,
and so they part.
FREE TO BE YOU AND ME
Not sure he trusts himself anymore, Sam decides to give up hunting and
live a "normal" life. At night, his dead girlfriend Jessica visits him
and tells him that people can never change despite their efforts. Dean,
intending on stopping the Apocalypse, continues hunting on his own and
teams up with Castiel to find the Archangel Raphael, as Castiel believes
Raphael knows God’s location. They find Raphael's vessel and lure him
out, but are no closer to finding God's location. Raphael even claims
that God is dead. After fighting off fellow hunters who wanted him to
drink demon blood in order to exorcise some demons, Sam gets another
late-night visit from Jessica, who turns out to be Lucifer disguising
himself as Sam's deceased girlfriend all along. He says that Nick's body
was just Plan B, and that his true vessel is supposed to be Sam. He is
convinced that eventually, without any trickery or lies, Sam will agree
to be his vessel, although Sam adamantly disagrees.
THE END
Sam calls Dean late at night and says that he wants to rejoin Dean in
the battle of the Apocalypse, but Dean tells Sam that they're better off
apart. Later, Dean awakens five years in the future in an abandoned
city and is attacked by humans who have been infected with a demonic
disease, the Croatoan virus. After Dean has
escaped the assault, Zachariah appears to him and explains that this
world is the result of Dean saying no to being Michael's vessel. He then
discovers a group of survivors led by his future self. When he sneaks
into the camp, he is captured by his future self, who explains that the
virus is Lucifer's endgame for destroying mankind. Supposedly, Sam did
not survive the showdown. Later it is revealed that Sam didn't die, but
did in fact say yes to Lucifer, thus letting him in. After having
acquired the Colt from demons, Future Dean plans on killing Lucifer and
ending the Apocalypse. Walking straight into a trap, Future Dean is
killed by Lucifer. Lucifer reveals that, whatever choices Dean will
make, he will always end up in the same situation. Lucifer leaves and
Zachariah appears, teleporting Dean back to the year 2009. When Dean
refuses to be Michael's vessel, even after he's seen what his decision
might result in, Zachariah attempts to persuade him with force. Castiel
saves Dean from Zachariah's wrath just in time. Ultimately, Dean and Sam
reconcile and decide to begin hunting together again.
FALLEN IDOLS
Sam and Dean are reunited and on the hunt again. They reach a small town
and investgate a string of very strange murders. A man who has found James Dean's car "Little Bastard" is found dead
as if he has been involved in a major car crash. Another man is murdered
by someone who looks just like Abraham Lincoln. Suspecting that the murders are the work
of famous ghosts, the boys do research at the local wax museum where Sam
is attacked by what seems to be the ghost of Mahatma Gandhi. Shortly afterwards, two
girls report to the police that their friend was kidnapped by Paris
Hilton, which leaves the brothers speechless. After finding
peculiar seeds in the victims' stomachs, they break into the museum's
construction area where they do find Paris Hilton—who is in fact a pagan god in
disguise, trying to settle down after its old home, a deep forest in
Eastern Europe, has been cut down. By touching their possessions, the
god can turn itself into famous people and kill their fans in order to
feed on their blood. While fighting the Leshi, Dean references
Padalecki's and Hilton's role in House of Wax, saying he has
never seen it. In the end, Sam kills "Paris Hilton" with an iron axe.
Before leaving town, Dean tells Sam that starting the Apocalypse isn't
his fault alone as he himself had broken the first seal and that they
shouldn't think about the whole vessel thing too much but instead fight
together.
I BELIEVE THE CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE
In Alliance, Nebraska, people are being
killed by practical joke devices such as itching powder and joybuzzers.
On top of that, a very odd looking Tooth Fairy extracts a man's teeth.
It turns out that an eleven-year-old boy named Jesse is the reason for
all of this. Everything he believes becomes reality. After searching his
birth records, Sam and Dean find out that the boy was adopted, so they
visit his biological mother, who lives across the state. She tells the
brothers that she was impregnated by a demon possessing her and gave up
her child for adoption after giving birth to him. Castiel informs the
Winchesters that Jesse is an Antichrist, a being half human, half demon,
imbued with essentially unlimited powers. Therefore, an Antichrist
would be Lucifer's special weapon in the war against Heaven and, as a serious threat,
needs to be eliminated. However, Sam and Dean believe that Jesse would
not turn evil if he is taken somewhere safe. When they try to convince
Jesse to come with them, the demon which conceived him interferes and
pins them to the wall. It is again possessing Jesse's biological mother.
After listening to the demon, Jesse renders it unable to speak in order
to hear what Sam has to say. Sam tells Jesse that he has a choice and
that it will haunt him forever if he makes the wrong decision. After
that, Jesse exorcises the demon from his mother. Pretending he wants to
say goodbye to his foster parents, he goes upstairs and vanishes into
thin air, protected by his powers, which makes it impossible to track
him down.
THE CURIOUS CASE OF DEAN WINCHESTER
Mysterious deaths caused by inexplicable aging lead Sam, Dean and Bobby
to a warlock named Patrick, who gambles for high stakes. He challenges
people to a poker game in which they don't play for money, but for life
years represented by magical poker chips. Bobby sees this game as an
opportunity to escape his wheelchair and accepts Patrick's challenge.
Losing the game, he begins to age rapidly. Dean wants to save Bobby and
challenges the warlock to win back Bobby's lost years to prevent him
from dying. He bets 50 years, of which he uses 25 to reverse Bobby's
aging process. However, Dean can't keep up with the warlock's poker
skills and loses, which causes him to age. Together, the Winchester
brothers and Bobby try to find a way to save Dean. They get unexpected
help from Patrick's accomplice, who thinks that living forever is not
natural and causes too much pain. She gives them a spell, one which can
reverse the effects of Patrick's magic. Sam challenges the warlock to a
poker game while Bobby and Dean perform the ritual. One ingredient of
the spell is a trace of Patrick's DNA, so they use a toothpick
supposedly used by him. The spell turns out to be ineffective since the
toothpick was not really used by Patrick. When frantically searching for
another object with the warlock's DNA on it, Dean suffers a heart
attack, but Sam wins the game just in time to save Dean.
CHANGING CHANNELS
While investigating a homicide apparently executed by the Incredible
Hulk, Sam and Dean are trapped inside TV land. They suspect the
Trickster is the reason for it, and attempt to track him down. Sam
suggests they ask the Trickster for help fighting the Apocalypse, and
Dean reluctantly agrees. They encounter him several times, but are
unable to trap him until Dean remembers a warning from Castiel about the
Trickster, which leads the brothers to believe the Trickster is in fact
a far more powerful creature than a simple demi-god. They manage to
lure him and trap him in a burning circle of holy oil. Since the
Trickster is unable to escape, it confirms their suspicions that he is
actually an angel. He applauds them and admits he's actually the Archangel
Gabriel, who voluntarily fell from Grace several years before as he
grew tired of watching his brothers fight each other. He trapped Sam and
Dean because he wants them to agree to be Lucifer's and Michael's
vessels, respectively, in order to end the Apocalypse. Gabriel also
states that the lives of Sam and Dean mirror the lives of Lucifer and
Michael, since Sam rebelled against his father while Dean remained
obedient. Dean still refuses to say yes to becoming a vessel, but before
they leave, he frees Gabriel from his trap and accuses him of simply
being too afraid to stand up against his own family.
THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS
Following a text message from Chuck, Sam and Dean arrive at a hotel,
which is the site for a Supernatural fan convention. They find out that it was their
over-enthusiastic fan Becky who sent the message, and have to deal with
several Sam and Dean wannabes participating in a fictitious ghost hunt.
After a convention attendee is seriously injured by real ghosts, the
Winchester brothers start researching and find out that there's a real
ghost haunting the hotel, whose name is Leticia Gore. Gore, who
supposedly killed four children by scalping them, was the orphanage
caretaker. Together with two copycat Winchesters they set out to find
Leticia's bones to salt and burn them. When accomplishing their task
they accidentally set the ghosts of the boys free. They find out that in
fact the three boys killed Leticia's son and that only the caretaker
was able to keep them under control. With Leticia gone the vengeful
spirits lock all participants in the hotel and wreak havoc on them. Sam
and Dean ask Chuck to keep everyone in the auditorium while they deal
with the ghosts, using an actress/Hooters
waitress to assume the role of Leticia Gore in order to control the
children's ghosts. However, the plan fails when her cell phone rings,
identifying her as a human. The ghosts attack Sam and Dean, but are
destroyed by a pair of Winchester imposters, who were able to salt and
burn the children's bones just in time. Upon leaving the hotel, Becky
reveals to Sam and Dean that Bela did not give the Colt to Lilith, but
instead gave it to her subordinate, Crowley.
ABANDON ALL HOPE...
Castiel finds Crowley, and with Jo's help the brothers enter his house.
To their surprise Crowley shoots his henchmen and gives them the Colt,
stating that he wants Lucifer dead because he believes that eventually
Lucifer will kill all demons after he destroys humanity. Back at Bobby's
place, Bobby photographs himself, Sam, Dean, Ellen, Jo and Castiel, as
he believes that this might be their last night on Earth. When the team
arrives in Missouri, Castiel sees Reapers everywhere. He tries to find
out why they are there and is subsequently captured by Lucifer, who
tries to convince Castiel to join him, while showing that his own
temporary vessel Nick, overpowered by Lucifer's presence inside him, is
dying. Meg arrives and sends hellhounds after the brothers and the
Harvelles, and while trying to help Dean, Jo is fatally wounded. While
taking shelter in a hardware store, Dean calls Bobby, who tells him the
Reapers are in town because they are waiting for their boss to show: Death, one of the Four
Horsemen. Realizing she won't recover from her wound, Jo suggests they
build a bomb to blow up the hellhounds, using her as bait to lure the
hellhounds inside. Ellen volunteers to stay behind, too, so she can let
the hellhounds in and set off the bomb while Dean and Sam escape. After a
tearful goodbye with Dean, Jo dies in Ellen's arms, who then blows up
the building, killing herself and the hellhounds. The brothers find
Lucifer in the middle of summoning Death. Dean shoots Lucifer point
blank with the Colt. However, he heals instantly and reveals that there
are only five beings the Colt can't kill—and he happens to be one of
them. Lucifer sacrifices a dozen demons to summon Death, stating that
"they're just demons". Meanwhile, Castiel manages to free himself from
his trap and takes the brothers to Bobby's. There, Bobby throws the
picture showing them all into the fire, and, together with the brothers,
grieves silently over the deaths of Jo and Ellen.
SAM, INTERRUPTED
A former hunter named Martin, who has been admitted into a mental
hospital, calls Sam and Dean for help with investigating a case. The
brothers get themselves admitted as patients to check out the mysterious
creature that has been attacking patients and has made their deaths
look like suicide. They find out that they are dealing with a Wraith, a
creature that feeds on human brains and disguises itself as a human. The
only way to identify a Wraith is through a mirror, which reveals its
true form. As the days go by, the Winchesters find themselves
hallucinating. After an attempt to kill the hospital's Chief of
Medicine, whom they suspect to be the monster, Sam is locked up and
sedated with a heavy dose of tranquilizers. Despite his mind being
paralyzed by the tricks the Wraith plays on it, Dean is able to figure
out that the Wraith must be the nurse who gave them their medical
check-up at the beginning, disturbing their minds after touching them.
He finds her just as she is attempting to suck Sam's brain dry. After
killing her and lifting the curse, the brothers flee from the mental
institution.
SWAP MEAT
Gary, a teenage nerd, meets Dean and Sam and conjures up a
body-switching spell, exchanging bodies with Sam. Thrilled with his new
looks, Gary takes advantage of his new appearance by hitting on women
and drinking alcohol. He meets up with Dean, who at first does not
realize Sam is not the real Sam. The two start working on a case and
kill a ghost together. Meanwhile, Sam is stuck in Gary's body and has to
deal with his strict parents and high school. He finds out that Gary
owns a book with satanic symbols all over it and sets off for his locker
at high school. After he has retrieved the book, he is shot by Gary's
friend Trevor with a tranquilizer gun. He and another friend of Gary's
called Nora take him to a basement and reveal that they have made a pact
with a demon, who offered them everything they wanted in exchange for
Sam and Dean. Trevor conjures the demon, who possesses Nora and kills
Trevor. She goes after Gary and tries to persuade him to meet Lucifer
and "answer one little question" with yes, which would let the Devil
into his true vessel. Gary refuses and, with Dean's help, exorcizes the
demon. In the end, Gary reverses the spell and the boys take him home.
Before leaving, Sam tells Gary that he should be glad to have a normal
life and a family, but when he and Dean get into the car, he states that
Gary's life "sucked ass", yet Dean counters by saying that perhaps they
themselves just don't know the good things they're missing out on.
THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME
The fallen angel Anna has escaped from her prison in Heaven and is
planning on killing Sam in order to prevent the Apocalypse. She calls
Sam and Dean and asks them to meet her, but instead of the brothers she
encounters Castiel, who doesn't believe she has escaped but suspects
there is something she is not telling them. Anna seems very evasive and
disappears without revealing much of her plans. Later, Castiel meets up
with the Winchesters and tells them that Anna has traveled back in time
to stop Mary and John Winchester from conceiving Sam. The three also
travel to the past, which weakens Castiel considerably. When knocking at
their parents' door, Mary recognizes Dean from his earlier visit and
tells them to leave immediately, suspecting something bad is bound to
happen. John, however, is thrilled to meet "relatives" from Mary's side
of the family and invites them in. Anna poses as John's employer and
calls him at home, telling him to come to the garage he works at. After
arriving there, he is attacked by Anna. The brothers and Mary come to
rescue him, and Sam is able to drive Anna out of the building by using a
magical sigil. They flee to a shelter, where Dean has a talk with Mary,
in which he reveals that he and Sam are her sons and that she has to
leave John in order to prevent her sons from being born. Suddenly, Anna
and a younger Uriel rush into the house, attacking the Winchesters which
allows Anna to kill Sam. Just as Anna is about to kill Mary, the Archangel Michael, having possessed
John's body, enters the room and burns Anna to death. He reveals that
Cain and Abel are the brothers' ancestors and that their destiny as
Michael and Lucifer's true vessels has been set since those ancient
times. He then revives Sam, erases Mary and John's memory and sends the
brothers back to their time.
MY BLOODY VALENTINE
When couples start eating each other to death, the brothers
investigate and find angelic marks on the victims' hearts. They call
Castiel, who suspects a Cupid to be responsible for the deaths. Castiel
summons the Cupid and asks him about the strange incidents, but the
angel of love says he is only acting on higher orders, but that killings
are not his work. After examining another victim's body, Sam follows a
suspicious man and confronts him. Sam fights him and grazes him with
Ruby's knife, which reveals that he is a demon. The demon flees and
leaves his briefcase behind, and Sam finds his addiction to demon blood
return. Soon, people start dying from binge eating or alcohol poisoning,
and Castiel develops a weird craving for red meat, which leads them to
believe that one of the Four Horsemen, Famine, who causes people
to give in to their desires, is behind the deaths. They open the
briefcase, which contains a human soul. Castiel states that Famine
harvests the souls of the people he killed and consumes them. Later,
Dean and Castiel set out to face Famine and cut off the finger on which
he wears the ring containing his power. They lock up Sam in order to
prevent him from giving into his cravings and follow the demons who
harvested a soul for Famine to devour. Meanwhile, demons enter the room
where Sam is chained up. Sam breaks free, attacks the demons and
satisfies his thirst. When Dean and Castiel arrive at the diner in which
they suspect Famine to dwell, Castiel enters the building in order to
attack Famine, but is held up by his desire for food. Dean walks in and
is assaulted by the demons guarding Famine. Famine then states that Dean
is not responding to his curse because he is empty inside and there is
nothing that can satisfy his hunger. When Sam suddenly appears, Famine
offers him the demons guarding himself, but Sam refuses. He exorcizes
them, and Famine devours their essences. Sam tries to use his powers on
the Horseman, but Famine states that Sam's abilities will not work on
him. Instead of killing the Horseman himself, Sam uses his powers to
destroy the demons Famine had just swallowed, effectively killing
Famine. In the end, Dean and Castiel lock Sam in Bobby's panic room in
order to detox the demon blood out of his system. When Dean cannot bear
to listen to Sam's screams anymore, he walks outside and prays to God
for help.
Note: Jensen Ackles (Dean) starred in the 2009 3D remake of the Canadian slasher film My Bloody Valentine.
DEAD MEN DON'T WEAR PLAID
Sam and Dean investigate Bobby’s hometown where the dead are rising from
the grave, but instead of attacking humans they are happily reuniting
with their families. The brothers turn to Bobby for help, but he tells
them not to worry about it and to leave town. Suspicious, Dean
investigates further and comes face to face with Bobby’s dead wife, who
seems to have no memory of what has happened to her. Once the zombies
start turning evil, the boys urge Bobby to kill his wife before she
kills him. Bobby refuses because he wants to spend a few happy hours
with his resurrected wife and says that as soon as she turns evil he
will take care of it. Shortly after, his wife shows signs of becoming a
flesh-eating zombie. Weakened by the disease, she lays down to rest and
tells Bobby that she actually remembers her demonic possession and
death. She also delivers a message from Death. After killing her,
Bobby helps the brothers fight off the zombies. They succeed and rid the
town of the plague. In the end, Bobby reveals that the rise of the dead
took place in his hometown because Death wanted to break his spirit
since he stands in the way of Lucifer's plans.
DARK SIDE OF THE MOON
Ambushed by angry hunters, Sam and Dean are killed and sent to Heaven.
Castiel, talking through a TV, explains to the brothers that Zachariah
is searching for them. The Winchesters' task is to find the Angel
Joshua, who is rumored to be talking to God. Trying to escape from
Zachariah's persecution, Sam and Dean re-live the happiest moments of
their lives. On their way they meet Ash, living in an illusional
Roadhouse. He says that the people sent to Heaven are rewarded for their
good deeds with a replica of their happiest memory. They also encounter
Pamela, who states that being dead and in Heaven is not so bad, after
all. Eventually, Zachariah finds the brothers and begins to torture
Dean, saying that he is sick of being condemned by his fellow angels
because he cannot handle "one little human." However, he is stopped by
Joshua, who claims to be acting on orders from God. Joshua tells the
brothers that God does not want their help. It is revealed that He is
the one who put them on that airplane in Sympathy for the Devil,
brought back Castiel and now granted them salvation in Heaven. Joshua
then returns them to Earth with their memories, where the brothers meet
Castiel and tell him everything. Castiel curses God and gives Dean his
amulet back, stating that it is useless now. As the brothers leave the
motel, Sam tries to convince Dean that they can still stop the
Apocalypse. Before walking out the door, Dean throws his amulet into the
trash can, leaving faith at the door.
99 PROBLEMS
Sam and Dean are cornered by demons, but saved at the last minute by Rob
and his townspeople, who are aware of the Apocalypse and have been
training to fight and kill demons. The small town is very religious, and
the brothers meet Pastor Gideon, who introduces them to his daughter
Leah. She has supposedly been receiving visions from angels and guiding
the townspeople on their fight against evil forces. When Leah tells the
townspeople to kill "evil" citizens in order to be granted salvation in
Heaven, the brothers realize that she is actually the Whore of Babylon, a creature from Hell that emerges during
the Apocalypse and tries to condemn as many people as possible to
eternal punishment in Hell by tricking them into committing Deadly Sins.
Unfortunately, she can only be killed by a special stake and by the
hands of a true servant of Heaven. So the brothers unite with Castiel
and convince Pastor Gideon that his daughter is dead and has been
replaced by a demonic creature that has to be killed and that he is a
true servant of Heaven. They apprehend the Whore, but the pastor is
knocked out. Leah escapes and talks the townspeople into believing that
her father is a demon. Dean fights her and manages to stake her with the
sacred staff, proving that he is a true servant of Heaven. Sam is quite
surprised at this fact and asks him if he is going to do something
stupid like letting in Michael. In the end, Dean goes to meet Lisa and
tells her that, in the next few days, she's going to see horrifying and
unbelievable things on TV, but she needs not worry because he is going
to make arrangements to protect her and her son, Ben. He also confesses
that if he could, he would live his dream of having a happy family. Lisa
is terrified and asks Dean to stay, have a beer and relax for a while,
but Dean refuses, although he would very much like to do so.
POINT OF NO RETURN
Dean begins to think the only way to stop Lucifer is to say yes to
Michael, but the angels decide they don't need him anymore. Instead,
Zachariah uses Dean and Sam's half-brother, Adam, to serve as Michael's
vessel as he is related to the Winchesters by blood. Castiel rescues
Adam as he revives and brings him to see his brothers and Bobby. But
Adam has no problem being Michael's vessel as the angels promised to
reunite him with his deceased mother and Sam tries to talk him out of
it. Since Dean still has the intention to accept the Archangel, Castiel
and Sam lock him in a cell but Dean tricks Castiel into releasing him
and escapes. Adam is convinced by Zachariah to act his part and he
leaves voluntarily. Dean is chased down by Castiel and the angel knocks
him unconscious and takes him back. Upon going with Zachariah, Adam
discovers that the angels have fooled him into tricking Dean to become
Michael's vessel. Sam trusts Dean not to give himself up to the angels
and releases him to help rescue Adam. Castiel goes inside the warehouse
and confronts a group of angels, using incantations on his body to
banish himself and the angels away while Dean and Sam enter. They
attempt to take Adam with them but are confronted by Zachariah. The
angel tortures both Sam and Adam to force Dean to say yes. Dean relents
and tells Zachariah to summon Michael. However, Dean reveals he's made a
few conditions in order to have Michael possess him, with the first
being Zachariah will be killed by Michael. To be sure, Dean surprises
and kills Zachariah himself. As Michael descends, the three brothers
flee but Adam is trapped inside. Dean is unable to go back in to save
Adam due to the searing heat and light, and when he enters the room
moments later, the room holding Adam has disappeared. Later, Dean
apologizes to Sam for his decision and tells his brother they will take
the fight to them, whether they be angels or Lucifer.
HAMMER OF THE GODS
Sam and Dean end up in a seemingly one-star motel at the side of the
road, but it turns out to be a five-star hotel with staff who are a
little too friendly for the brothers liking. They soon discover strange
things happen at the hotel and guests are disappearing one at a time.
They are soon trapped by the staff, who turn out to be a group of gods,
including Kali,
Ganesh, Mercury, Zao Shen, Baron
Samedi, Odin,
and Baldur, and who want to use them as bargaining
chips to stop the Apocalypse. Dean and Sam are soon joined by Gabriel
under his Loki
persona, who is willing to help them out. While he distracts Kali, Dean
and Sam try to free the other trapped guests, however Kali is on to
Gabriel and steals his sword and kills him. The brothers make a deal;
release the guests and they will help the gods kill Lucifer. The gods
reluctantly agree and Dean leads the hostages outside and stumbles upon a
very much alive Gabriel, who explains the sword was a fake. He tells
Dean he can't kill Lucifer because he's his brother, and Dean goes back
inside the hotel. Lucifer arrives and kills all the gods but Kali.
Gabriel shows up to help the brothers and sends them away. As he faces
Lucifer for the first time in centuries, Gabriel tells him he's not
loyal to him or Michael, but to humans, because despite their flaws,
they're always willing to try harder and forgive. As Gabriel makes his
move, Lucifer is onto him and kills him. Outside, Dean and Sam watch a
movie Gabriel gave to them, in which the Archangel explains to them that
they can't kill Lucifer, but they can trap him back in Hell. All they
need are the four rings that belong to the Horsemen to do this. As Dean
and Sam set out to find them, Pestilence
is revealed to be on Earth.
THE DEVIL YOU KNOW
Dean and Sam encounter Crowley while on the trail of Pestilence. Both
brothers are angry at Crowley for giving them the Colt which did not
work on Lucifer. Crowley mentions that he's being hunted down by his
fellow demons and tells the brothers that he knows where the last two
rings can be found. He directs them to Brady, the demon Handler for the
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. However, Crowley will only show the way
if Sam does not go with them. Later, Sam and Bobby have an argument
over Sam intending to trick Lucifer back into Hell by letting Lucifer
possess him. Dean meets Brady, the demon-possessed CEO of a
pharmaceutical company, who is under Pestilence's orders. Dean tries to
trick Brady with a proposition but the demon does not buy it, intending
to just kill Dean. However, Crowley gets the drop on Brady and knocks
him unconscious. Dean is warned by Crowley that Sam and Brady have a
history; Brady is in fact Sam's classmate from college. The Handler
possessed Brady since sophomore year, and deliberately introduced
Jessica to Sam to put Azazel's plans into motion. Sam is furious and
wants to kill Brady but Dean stops him. While Crowley is away, Sam traps
Dean in the bathroom as he plans to kill Brady. Brady goads Sam into
killing him but Sam manages to calm himself and leave. Crowley returns
after killing a nest of demons and making it look as though Brady joined
his side. However, Crowley is tracked down by a hellhound. Crowley
escapes, leaving Dean, Sam and Brady in the hideout. While Dean attempts
to fight off the hellhound, Crowley returns with his own hound against
the other hound. After the four of them escape, Brady gives up the
location for Pestilence. Dean then allows Sam to finish Brady off.
Later, Crowley appears to Bobby and tells him he will reveal Death's
location in exchange for his soul.
TWO MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT
Dean and Sam finally hear from Castiel again, but he cannot go to them
because his "batteries" are drained and he has no more power; he's now
practically human. Dean and Sam go after Pestilence,
and nearly die from a hailstorm of diseases. Castiel shows up (he took a
bus) and cuts off the Horseman's finger, using the last of his angelic
strength to resist Pestilence's plagues. He takes the ring, but not
before Pestilence tells them that "it's too late." Upon rejoining with
Bobby, the brothers learn how Bobby "pawned" his soul to Crowley in
exchange for Death's location. Crowley explains
that Bobby's soul is his insurance, and that he won't give it back until
everything has cooled down. It turns out the deal includes a bonus;
Bobby can walk again. The group splits up; Sam, along with Castiel and
Bobby, head out in order to find and contain the Croatoan virus
(disguised and being distributed as a swine flu vaccine). On the way,
Castiel hears about Sam's plan concerning Lucifer and surprisingly
encourages him. However, he warns Sam that Michael has already found a
human vessel; Adam. The battle between Michael and Lucifer will commence
if Sam isn't able to resist possession. At the shipping warehouse, the
three are able to contain the virus and shoot those who have been
infected by it. Meanwhile, Dean goes with Crowley to find Death and get
the last ring. They locate Death in Chicago, which according to Bobby is
about to be wiped out by the storm of the millennium. As the rain
starts, Death and Dean meet in a pizza parlor, where Death explains that
he is tied to Lucifer through a spell. This is the only reason he
didn't try to find Dean, but has instead had to wait for him. He offers
to give him his ring, but there is one condition; agree to Sam saying
yes to Lucifer so they can lure him into the trap. He'll also spare
Chicago. ("I like the pizza.") Dean agrees, receiving the ring and
instructions on how to use all four of them to trap Lucifer. Upon
returning, he tells Bobby he lied to Death's face, but Bobby says that
Death is Death, and asks Dean if he's more afraid to lose, or to lose
his brother.
SWAN SONG
Chuck begins to narrate the life and times of the Impala and the boys
life inside of it. Chuck reveals their time spent in the Impala and how
they made it their home throughout the years before and after they began
hunting. Remembering a comment made by Lucifer in the future, Dean
realizes that the fallen angel is in Detroit. Sam and Dean confront
Lucifer, who knows of their plan to use the Horsemen's rings to trap him
back in his cage. Despite this, Sam offers himself as a vessel, hoping
that he can overcome Lucifer's control and throw himself into the
prison. Lucifer is too strong, and Sam disappears in his body. As
Lucifer tries to make Sam happy by killing the demons sent by Azazel to
manipulate him during his childhood, Dean learns from Chuck the time and
location of the final battle between Michael and Lucifer. The following
day at the battleground—Stull Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas—Lucifer
tries to talk Michael out of fighting, but he refuses. However, Castiel
interrupts the fight by banishing Michael with holy fire. An angry
Lucifer kills Castiel, and then snaps Bobby's neck when he shoots him.
He then starts brutally beating Dean, but stops when he notices an old army man
of Sam's inside the Impala revealed earlier during Chuck's narration.
Sam remembers his life growing up with Dean, and manages to take control
of his body. He uses the rings to reopen the door to the cage, and
prepares to jump inside. Michael returns and tries to stop him, but he
too is pulled into the pit while grappling with Sam. Castiel,
resurrected again as an angel, heals Dean and brings Bobby back to life.
He returns to Heaven, hoping to bring order now that Michael is gone.
As Dean attempts to move on, he seems to turn his back on hunting and
returns to Lisa. Chuck smiles after finishing his narration of the
story, and vanishes into thin air. Later that night, a streetlight
flickers out and Sam is revealed outside Lisa's home, looking in the
window at the "family" eating dinner together.
LAZARUS RISING
Four months after being dragged to Hell by Lilith's minions, Dean
inexplicably wakes up, buried underground in a coffin. He escapes his
underground confinement and tries to contact Bobby, when he's suddenly
ambushed by an unknown entity. He is reunited with Sam, who is just as
surprised at Dean's resurrection as he himself. Together with Bobby, the
Winchester brothers find a psychic, Pamela Barnes, to help them
discover what pulled Dean out of Hell. Pamela does find out the name of
the being, Castiel, but at a horrible price—the sight of Castiel burns
her eyes out. It is also revealed that Sam's psychic abilities have
advanced greatly as he now is able to exorcise demons. He also seems to
be frequently meeting with Ruby, who has possessed a new host. Sick of
being toyed with, Dean decides to summon the thing together with Bobby
in order to find out what it wants and prepares a ritual. The ritual
succeeds and Castiel appears, an angel of the Lord. He explains that he
is responsible for dragging Dean out of Hell and, when Dean asks why he
of all people would be worthy of being saved, that God has work for him
to do.
ARE YOU THERE, GOD? IT'S ME, DEAN WINCHESTER
Bobby asks the Winchester boys for help when fellow hunters of his are
being killed off one by one in a most gruesome way. Sam is haunted by
FBI Agent Henrickson who died in the explosion caused by Lilith, accusing
Sam of failing him. Together with Bobby they find out that they're
being haunted by the spirits of the people they couldn't save, which is
called "The Rising of the Witnesses", a sign of the upcoming Apocalypse.
Meg Masters (Nicki Aycox) and two twin girls also appear and
haunt Dean, Sam and Bobby, who perform a ritual to ward off the angry
spirits. Later, Castiel appears to Dean in a dream and reveals that "The
Rising of the Witnesses" is one of many seals, which are being broken
by demons in order to bring on the Apocalypse,
in which Lucifer
will walk the earth.
IN THE BEGINING
Dean is transported back in time to the '70s in Lawrence, Kansas. There,
he meets a younger John Winchester (Matt
Cohen) and Mary (Amy Gumenick). This family reunion gets bigger when
the Dean meets their Grandfather (Mitch
Pileggi), who could have a huge secret.
METAMORPHOSIS
After watching Sam harness his powers, Dean angrily confronts him.
Distance and tension is put between the two brothers as Dean realizes

Ruby's help, and lying to him about it. Meanwhile, a hunter asks Sam and
Dean for help in a case involving a man who is going through a
metamorphosis into a monstrous creature that consumes human flesh.
MONSTER MOVIE
The Winchester Brothers find themselves at a local Oktoberfest
celebration investigating a series of suspicious murders being

1930's horror movies. They soon discover this is the work of yet another
Shapeshifter (portrayed by Todd Stashwick).
YELLOW FEVER
The boys are lured into a town where a man died of a heart attack, but
with none of the usual symptoms. The man died of a ghost sickness which
is passed onto Dean. The illness causes a person to experience general
anxiety, which progresses into deadly fear. Sam and Bobby must find a
way to save Dean before his heart stops. The original title for this
episode was 'Phobia'. Also, before the credits, there is a special
surprise for the fans: an outtake of Jensen Ackles improvisationally air
guitaring his way through 'Eye of the Tiger'.
IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, SAM WINCHESTER
It's a few days before Halloween and Sam and Dean investigate two
mysterious deaths in a small town. The brothers find hex bags and deduce
a witch is sacrificing people to summon a dangerous demon named
Samhain. Castiel arrives in town and tells Sam and Dean the freeing of
Samhain is one of the seals that will lead to freeing Lucifer. Castiel
brings a specialist angel named Uriel to smite the entire town.
WISHFUL THINKING
Sam and Dean investigate a small town where the wishing well really
works. A teddy bear comes to life, someone wins the lottery and the town
geek gets a hot girlfriend. The brothers realize that while everyone is
happy now, the end result will be disastrous.
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER
Ruby heard some demons whisper about a girl in the psychiatric hospital
who suddenly became a target for demons, and points Sam and Dean in the
direction to protect Anna Milton before Hell gets their hooks into her.
After a close encounter with a dangerous demon powerhouse, Alastair,
whom Dean remembers from Hell, Sam reveals what happened to him in the
months without Dean. Castiel and Uriel appear and the Winchesters
realize it has become a fight between Heaven and Hell for the girl.
(Part 1 of 2)
HEAVEN AND HELL
Dean and Sam figure out why Castiel and his superior/handler, Uriel, the
Archangel of Purity, want Anna Milton dead when the three of them are
forced to go on the run, not only from heavenly and vengeful angels, but
from Alastair and his demon minions who also try to track down Sam,
Dean and Anna. (Part 2 of 2)
FAMILY REMAINS
Sam and Dean investigate a suspected haunted house with a murderous
spirit inside the walls. Complications ensue when a family of five moves

home.

Sam and Dean attend a magician's convention where it seems
that real magic is being performed. However, while performing magic, a
magician performs execution on himself, but he did not get killed
whereas a man dies after being impaled by the spikes in his stage. Has
someone turned to the dark arts to revive their failing career? Also,
Ruby visits Sam with a proposition.
AFTER SCHOOL SPECIAL
Sam and Dean discover that a spirit is haunting one of their old high
schools. While investigating the haunting Dean and Sam relive their high
school experiences through flashbacks. The spirits are actually nerds
who are tormented by jocks, so they want revenge on them.
SEX AND VIOLANCE
The brothers investigate murders committed by men under the spell of a
siren, and meet a doctor who takes a liking to Sam. They also meet a
detective who first questions Sam and Dean, and then helps them. Then
the brothers fall under the spell themselves.
DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY
The brothers investigate a town where no one dies because the Reapers
are being trapped. With no one left to guide the souls to the afterlife,
people survive fatal gunshots, stabbing wounds, etc. Sam and Dean learn
that Alastair plans to break one of the 66 seals by killing Reapers and
seek the help of psychic Pamela to stop his malicious plan. But things
go wrong when Pamela gets hurt.
ON THE HEAD OF A PIN
Castiel and Uriel have captured Alastair and ask Dean to use the
torturing skills he learned in Hell to extract information from him so
they can stop whomever is killing angels. Sam is concerned Dean can’t
handle the job but Dean agrees to do it. However, when Alastair reveals
some shocking information, Dean’s world is shattered. Sam ends up
getting Alastair to reveal the demon who is murdering the angels by
using his powers. Also, new information is revealed about the angels.
IT'S A TERRIBLE LIFE
Dean has gone missing and finds himself in an alternate reality in which
he is a Wall Street Tycoon surrounded by a haunting that is forcing his
co-workers to kill themselves.
THE MONSTER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK
Lilith possesses the body of a dental hygienist and returns to wreak
havoc and trouble on the Winchesters. Sam and Dean also discover a book
entitled Supernatural about two demon hunting brothers named Sam
and Dean Winchester while investigating a possible haunting at a comic
book shop - the shop clerk believes the boys are LARPing the book when they visit. The author of
the book turns out to be a prophet.
JUMP THE SHARK
A 19-year-old boy named Adam calls Sam and Dean looking for John
Winchester, claiming to be his son. Dean and Sam meet Adam, assuming
he's a demon trying to lure then into a trap. However, they find out
that John was indeed the boy's father and Adam tells them of his
"normal" upbringing, which infuriates Dean.
THE RAPTURE
Castiel appears to Dean in a dream and says he has something important
to tell him but they need to meet somewhere private. Dean and Sam go
searching for Castiel but instead find Jimmy, Castiel’s human vessel,
who has only a spotty recollection of being an angel. Jimmy wants to
return to his family and normal life, but Dean and Sam are concerned
about his safety.
WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS
Dean and Bobby lock Sam in Bobby’s panic room so he can detox from the
demon blood. However, as Bobby sees more seals are being broken he tells
Dean they should let Sam out to help them fight the impending
Apocalypse. Dean disagrees and goes to Castiel for help. Sam and Dean
have a big blowout confrontation.
LUCIFER RISING
After leaving Dean, Sam joins Ruby on a final run to kill Lilith. They
kidnap Lilith's personal chef who disguises itself as a nurse, stealing
newborn babies for Lilith to devour, to question her. Meanwhile, Dean is
kidnapped by the angels and brought to a room without any exit where
Zachariah explains to him that the angels are not trying to stop the
final seal from being broken—in fact, they want to start the Apocalypse,
for it will cleanse the earth and bring Paradise. So Dean's task is not
stopping the Apocalypse from starting, but ending it once it has. Dean
is furious at Castiel for deceiving him, and Castiel reluctantly reveals
that Lilith's death will break the final seal and sends Dean to St.
Mary's Convent where Sam is just using his powers to kill Lilith. Ruby
sees Dean approaching and closes the door telepathically so Dean can't
stop Sam. After Sam has killed Lilith, her blood forms some sort of
portal on the ground while Ruby reveals that she has been working for
Lucifer the entire time, and the only demon who knew of her true
allegiance was Lilith. She manipulated Sam into killing Lilith because
she knew that Lilith was the final seal. Sam is devastated when he
realizes what he has done. Suddenly, Dean smashes the door and stabs
Ruby with her own knife, killing her for good, as the door to Lucifer's
prison begins to open.
THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Bracing themselves for the possibility of an apocalyptic war, Sam and
Dean realize they have an enormous task of hunting down the hundreds of
demons that escaped from the Devil's Gate. With only a year left to
live, Dean decides to live life to the fullest and exhibits a carefree
attitude that troubles Sam, who is trying to find a loophole in the
deal. Bobby tells the brothers about a sighting in Nebraska, that turns
out to be seven demons that are the actual manifestations of the Seven Deadly Sins. Ruby appears for the first time and seems to be
stalking Sam. She then lends a hand at a crucial time.
THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
Sam and Dean track down changelings that are pursuing mothers and their
children. A boy they protect bears a strange resemblance to Dean, which
at first makes Dean uncomfortable because he once had a one-night stand with the boy's mother Lisa. Sam learns more
about his family roots and is offered a possible way to save Dean via a
proposition from Ruby who appears again and shows Sam her true colors.
BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK
Word continues to spread of the Winchesters and the opening of a Devil's
Gate, with them to blame. The Winchesters suddenly find their luck
rising after finding a rabbit's foot. But Bobby tells Sam that the foot
is cursed and brings death to the person who loses it. Bela
Talbot appears for the first time and steals the foot from Sam,
causing him a string of bad luck. Gordon's instincts may condemn Sam, as
Sam is kidnapped by a mentee of fellow hunter who admires Gordon and
brutally beats Sam. Sam swears that his past supernatural abilities are
gone, but he is ignored because the hunter (Kubrick) believes he is on a
mission from God to save the world from Sam. While looking for Sam,
Dean spars with the thief Bela and, luckily, gains the upper foot.
SIN CITY
Sam and Dean investigate a rash of violent deaths in Elizabethville,
Ohio, a once-sleepy town that has been turned into a haven for gamblers
and drinkers. Dean discovers two demons have infiltrated Elizabethville
and are using their powers of persuasion to make the townspeople succumb
to their basic instincts. Dean uses a Devil's Trap to capture one of
the demons, and it manages to trap Dean as well, later they get to talk
and Dean ends up feeling sympathetic with the demon. Meanwhile, Ruby
helps Bobby rebuild the Colt from scratch and stuns him with some news.
BEDTIME STORIES
Fairy tales come to life when the brothers investigate Callie, a young
girl who seems to personify Snow White. Poisoned by her stepmother and
trapped in a coma, her spirit becomes angrier as more time passes.
Callie's father visits her constantly, reading her original Brothers
Grimm stories and unknowingly inspiring her carnage. After putting her
spirit to rest, Sam meets the Crossroads Demon (played by Padalecki's
then-girlfriend Sandra McCoy) to "make a deal" — either release
Dean from his bargain or die. The demon says that she doesn't have the
power to break the deal and only her boss has that ability. She then
taunts Sam that letting Dean die will be good for him, so Sam shoots her
dead.
RED SKY AT MORNING
Dean and Sam visit a woman, Gertrude, whose niece may have been drowned
by ghosts from a sunken ship, only to find that the woman is well aware
of that possibility and their cover has already been blown by Bela.
Without missing a beat, Dean smoothly goes along with the woman's
realization. Later, Bela and Dean struggle for the upper hand and Sam
tries to avoid Gertrude's while they act as a distraction.
FRESH BLOOD
Gordon has escaped from prison, and trades Bela a valuable item in
exchange for Sam's location. After an encounter with Sam and Dean,
Gordon is taken captive by a vengeful vampire who at first plans to feed
the famed vampire hunter to his new female companions (whom he calls
his "daughters"). Meanwhile Dean tries to gently break the news to Sam
that they'll have to kill Gordon when they find him. Sam surprises Dean
by agreeing without protest. Later, the boys realize just how badly the
vampire's new plan backfired when Gordon is turned into what he loathed
most. When the boys find out Bela was responsible for Gordon finding
them, Dean informs Bela the first thing he's going to do if they survive
is kill her, but things appear to be resolved when she helps them
locate him. Mercedes McNab guest stars.
A VERY SUPERNATURAL CHRISTMAS
In this Christmas-themed episode, Sam and Dean encounter a twisted
couple of pagan gods that share a craving for human meat.
Flashbacks follow the Winchesters during Christmas 16 years ago when Sam
first learned that the supernatural existed and that his father hunted
it.
MALLEUS MALEFICARUM
Sam and Dean encounter a coven of witches who have been serving demons.
Ruby tells Sam and Dean to get out of town while they still had the
chance, but the Winchesters ignore her warning. Blood begins to spurt
out Dean's mouth and Sam travels to the witch’s house to stop the spell.
After a near-death experience, Ruby saves Dean and they both go to help
Sam. The brothers learn that Ruby was once a human witch before
becoming a demon.
DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME
A maid comes into Bobby's hotel room and finds him asleep. No one can
wake him up and the doctor concludes that he just suddenly lapsed into a
coma. Dean and Sam investigate this ordeal and find that he is trapped
within his own mind. The boys manage to save Bobby, but Dean must face
one of his greatest fears.
MYSTERY SPOT
Sam relives the same day over and over, continually having to deal with
Dean's death. Determined to stop the time loop, he repeatedly tries to
alter the day or otherwise prevent his brother's death from ever
occurring. After repeated failures, a slight change in how the day plays
out tips Sam off on whom the culprit really is. He confronts the man
and it is revealed to be the Trickster, whom the brothers believed they
had killed some time before. Sam attempts to kill him, but the Trickster
ends the loop and allows the brothers to leave. The day after, Dean is
shot by a mugger and dies. Distraught, Sam turns dark and dedicates his
life to tracking down the Trickster. Eventually, they meet once again,
and Sam begs the Trickster to fix things.
JUS IN BELLO
Sam and Dean break into Bela's apartment in order to get the Colt back,
but she has tipped off Agent Henricksen about their whereabouts and they
are arrested. While Sam and Dean are locked in a cell in Colorado, a
demon breaks in and kills some of the Sheriff's men and possesses
Henricksen. After the guys vanquish the demon, the FBI agent realizes
they were telling the truth and prepares to release them, but Ruby shows
up to warn Sam and Dean that the jailhouse is surrounded by a band of
demons with a powerful new leader who wants Sam dead. Ruby proposes a
plan which involves killing the virginal counter girl, but Dean declines
the offer and chooses to let the demons in in order to trap them by
sealing the doors with salt and playing Sam's voice on a tape recorder
through the P.A.
reciting an exorcism ritual. After the brothers are gone a little girl
comes into the Sheriff's office and asks for them as a tall guy and a
cute one, when asked for her name she reveals to be Lilith, the demon
who wants Sam dead, and kills everyone in the building.
GHOSTFACERS
Sam and Dean work a case at the same place where the boys from Hell
Hound's Lair, Ed Zeddmore and Harry Spangler, are shooting the pilot for
their reality show "Ghost Facers." Every leap year, at midnight, a
ghost who used to be a janitor at a local hospital and bring dead bodies
home to play with, kills people and brings their corpses to the Morton
House for company. Their spirits remain trapped in the house as well as
any living person in the house at midnight. Sam and Dean become trapped
in the house with the Ghost Facers crew and must figure out how to kill
the ghost as it hunts them one by one.
LONG DISTANCE CALL
People are getting phone calls from loved ones who have died telling
them to kill themselves. Dean receives a call from John (guest star
Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and he tells Dean that he knows who the demon is
and how to get out of the contract that will send his soul to Hell. Sam
and Dean argue because Sam distrusts the information that Dean is
receiving by phone, but Dean is convinced that it's his father and
follows the advice he is given to try and save himself. However the
Crocotta (a scavenger demon that lures people into the dark by
repeatedly saying "Come to me" and then devours their soul) is using the
radio station to lure people to it by committing suicide.
TIME IS ON MY SIDE
Sam convinces Dean to go to Erie, Pennsylvania, to investigate a
possible zombie. But they end up meeting Doctor Benton (guest star Billy
Drago), a real doctor who abandoned his work in 1816 to
follow his obsession of finding the key to eternal life. He drugs people
and harvests their internal organs to replace his. Meanwhile, Bobby
finds out where Bela is and Dean leaves Sam to deal with the doctor
alone while he confronts Bela. Bela then reveals that she is on a
contract to Lilith and dies in the final scene. Meanwhile Sam is
captured by the doctor, but Dean helps him escape and ends up trapping
the doctor, who is buried for the rest of his life.
NO REST FOR THE WICKED
With only 30 hours left before Dean's deal is up, Sam and Bobby search
for Lilith, who holds the contract. After locating Lilith in New
Harmony, Indiana, Sam summons Ruby for help despite Dean's protests.
They decide they can't trust her and steal her demon killing knife and
depart for New Harmony. Lilith is holding a family hostage while using
the body of their little girl as a host. Sam, Dean, and Bobby take on
Lilith and her demons in a last effort to save Dean's life. Lilith
departs the body of the little girl and takes the body of Ruby,
unbeknownst to Sam and Dean. The clock tolls for midnight, after Dean
tells an upset Sam to keep fighting. Dean sees the hellhound and runs
into a room of the house. Ruby promises that she can fight it off,
asking for her Dagger. Dean tells Sam that it isn't Ruby, and they
fight. Sam tries a last minute bargain, to no avail. Lilith lets in the
hellhound, and it claws Dean to death. Lilith attempts to kill Sam, but
he's too strong for her powers. As Sam tries to stab Lilith, she leaves
the host body, and Sam realizes that Dean is gone. He cries over his
brother's dead body. The audience sees Dean in Hell, hung on hooks in a
web of chains, crying out for Sam's help.
SEASON ONE
Two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, team up to find their father,
John, who went missing on a hunting trip. However, their father isn't a
typical hunter: he hunts supernatural creatures like ghosts, vampires,
and various demons
and he's trained his sons to do the same. Along the way, Sam and Dean
save innocent people, fight creatures and ghosts, and collect clues to
their father's whereabouts. Sam begins to mysteriously develop psychic
abilities and visions as they travel. They eventually find their father,
who reveals that the creature that killed Sam and Dean's mother years
earlier is a yellow-eyed demon and the only thing that can kill him is a
legendary gun
created by Samuel Colt.
SEASON TWO
The season follows Sam and Dean as they deal with their father's death
and continue to hunt the yellow-eyed demon with assistance from new
allies Ellen, Jo, and Ash. Part of the demon's master plan is eventually
revealed as he gathers Sam and others like him, leading to Sam dying.
Dean makes a deal with a crossroads demon to bring back Sam in exchange
for his soul, which will be collected in one year. In a final
confrontation, in which Dean kills the yellow-eyed demon, a Hell's Gate
is opened, releasing numerous demons from within.
SEASON THREE
The season mainly focuses on trying to save Dean from his deal and
tracking down the demons that were released from the gate. Along the
way, the brothers meet a demon named Ruby, who has an interest in Sam and claims to be
able to help save Dean. Also, they meet Bela
Talbot, an "acquirer" and seller of occult objects, who is
constantly a thorn in their side. The brothers eventually learn what
demon holds Dean's contract; a being of great power named Lilith. The
brothers, along with Ruby, track her down and attempt to kill her.
Lilith is unable to stop Sam due to his mysterious abilities, however,
Dean's contract expires and his soul is taken to Hell.
SEASON FOUR
Dean is rescued from Hell and brought back by an angel named Castiel; one of several angels that
appears throughout the season. The rest of the season follows the
brothers as they work with Castiel to stop Lilith's plan of breaking the
66
seals, which would allow Lucifer to walk free once again. Sam and
Dean's relationship is also strained as Sam starts siding with Ruby over
Dean. He also begins to give into his demonic side by drinking demon
blood to become strong enough to defeat Lilith. After tracking down and
killing Lilith, Sam learns that her death is actually the last seal and
that Ruby was deceiving him all along. Dean arrives too late to stop
him, but kills Ruby as Lucifer's prison opens up beneath them.
SEASON FIVE
The fifth season revolves around the fight to stop Lucifer and save the
world from the Apocalypse. Throughout the season, Dean and Sam battle
both angels and demons as they fight their destiny to become the vessels
of Michael and Lucifer. Unable to defeat Lucifer, they defeat each of
the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, whose rings act as the keys to
Lucifer's prison. The idea of destiny versus freedom and choice play a
big role. Throughout the season, Dean, Sam, Castiel, and Bobby each have
a crisis as they near giving up. However, through each other's support,
they continue forward until the end.
SEASON SIX
Creator Eric Kripke originally planned for the show to last only five
seasons, but due to increased ratings from the fourth and fifth
seasons,
the CW network renewed the series for a sixth season.
Kripke has confirmed that he will not be returning as showrunner;
however, he will still remain as a hands-on executive producer, leaving
Executive Producer Sera Gamble to take over the reins.
Both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have six-year contracts, and will return
for at least one more season. Padalecki stated that if the show is no
longer compelling after a possible sixth season, that he will not return
for more.
Sera Gamble, who will take over the showrunner position, has said
that the sixth and possible final season of the show will focus on the
brothers' relationship.
The season will steer towards the format of the early seasons with
"lots of meat-and-potatoes closed-ended episodes, and...a season-long
story arc to weave in".
According to a press release by the CW, Heaven and Hell are now in
"complete disarray", forcing Sam and Dean to reunite to "beat back the
rising tide of creatures and demon-spawn" that "roam across a lawless
and chaotic landscape".
IN MY TIME OF DYING
As the season opens, the Winchesters are taken to a hospital in Memphis following a car wreck caused by one of the demon Azazel's henchmen. Though Sam
(Padalecki) and his father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) make it out of the crash with
minor injuries, a dying Dean (Ackles) is in a coma. He has an out-of-body experience, and is
approached by a Reaper (Lindsey McKeon) who tries to take his soul. She reveals that
if he refuses to move on, he will one day become a vengeful spirit.
Meanwhile, Sam tries without success to save his brother, so John
contacts Azazel (Fredric Lehne) and offers to make a deal; in
exchange for saving Dean's life, he will give up his own life, his
immortal soul, and the mystical Colt—a gun capable of killing
anything.
EVERYBODY LOVES A CLOWN
After cremating their father's body, Sam and Dean refuse to discuss his
death. Instead, they head back to work, and track an old message on
John's phone to Harvelle's Roadhouse, a bar frequented by hunters. There
they meet Ellen Harvelle (Samantha Ferris), an old friend of John's, and her daughter Jo
(Alona
Tal). As the bar's resident genius Ash (Chad
Lindberg) attempts to analyze John's research on Azazel with his
computer, the brothers investigate the murders of visitors to a
traveling carnival. They discover that a Rakshasa—a
demon of Hindu mythology— has been taking the form of
a clown and tricking children into inviting it into their homes so that
it can eat their parents. When not feeding, it takes the form of a
blind knife thrower at the carnival; the brothers kill it with a brass
pipe. Dean later takes out his anger at his father's death on the Impala, one of his most prized
possessions.
BLOODLUST
The brothers investigate a series of decapitations and cattle
mutilations in Red Lodge, Montana, and find that one of the victims was a
vampire. They then run into vampire hunter Gordon Walker (Sterling K. Brown), who Ellen warns them is dangerous. Sam
is later captured by a group of vampires, and their leader Lenore (Amber
Benson) reveals to him that they have reformed, feeding only on
cattle. After being released unharmed, Sam tries to no avail to convince
his brother that the vampires should be left alone. However, when they
arrive at the vampire's hideout, they find that Gordon has already
captured Lenore. They try to convince Gordon not to kill her, but he
cuts Sam's arm to tempt the vampire. When Lenore resists the temptation,
the brothers overpower him. As Dean ties Gordon up, Sam takes Lenore to
safety. Dean later admits to Sam that he was wrong about the vampires.
CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS
As they bury their father's dog tags at their mother's
grave, the brothers' suspicions are aroused when they notice dead plants
over the nearby grave of the recently deceased young woman Angela Mason
(Tamara Feldman). They soon discover that the woman's
cheating boyfriend was murdered the previous night. Sam and Dean dig up
her grave and find the coffin empty. They deduce that her close friend
Neil (Christopher Jacot), who was secretly in
love with her, resurrected her as a zombie. Having killed her boyfriend,
her next target is her roommate, with whom her boyfriend had been
cheating. However, Sam and Dean save the woman and kill the zombie with a
silver stake. Dean later apologizes to Sam for his recent behavior, and
reveals he has had trouble coping with his guilt over their father's
death.
SIMON SAID
When Sam has a vision of a man committing a murder-suicide, Ash helps
the brothers track down Andy Gallagher (Gabriel Tigerman), whose mother
was killed in the same manner as their own mother—dying in a nursery
fire. They head to Guthrie, Oklahoma, and Sam is able to stop the
murder, although the man still ends up killing himself. The brothers
later locate Andy, and learn that he has mind-control abilities. They
believe that Andy forced the man to commit suicide. However, Sam has
another vision of a woman's suicide, and it comes to pass while they are
talking to Andy, exonerating him. After learning that Andy was adopted
and that the woman who killed herself is his biological mother, they
conduct research and discover that he has a twin brother named Ansen (Elias Toufexis) that he never knew about. Ansen has been
using the same ability out of anger to kill those connected to the
adoption that separated them. He then targets Andy's ex-girlfriend, and
the Winchesters rush to save her. However, Andy ends up killing his twin
to save Dean, making Sam realize that every child connected to Azazel
seems to end up becoming a killer. After they later return to the
Roadhouse, Ash reveals that Ansem's adoptive mother did not die when he
was an infant, meaning not every psychic child follows a traceable
pattern.
NO EXIT
When Ellen will not allow Jo to investigate mysterious disappearances of
women in an apartment building, Sam and Dean take the case and head to
Philadelphia. However, Jo secretly follows them and offers to help. They
find ectoplasm in the latest victim's
apartment and realize that a ghost is behind the kidnappings. Jo's
extensive research shows that America's first serial killer, H.
H. Holmes (Stephen Aberle), was executed and buried on the location
where the apartment building was later built. Another woman soon
vanishes, so the three rush to find a way to save her; Jo is captured by
the spirit. The brothers find the ghost's lair in the sewer system
under the building and free Jo and the other woman. They then trap the
spirit within a ring of salt—a deterrent of ghosts—and seal the
chamber's entrance with concrete. After Jo is reunited with her mother,
an angry Ellen reveals that Jo's father died while on a hunt with John
Winchester.
THE USUAL SUSPECTS
The brothers investigate the mysterious murders of a lawyer and his
wife, but are soon arrested, with Dean's previous record—having been
framed for attempted murder by a shapeshifter—coming back to haunt him.
However, Sam manages to escape. One of the detectives, Diana Ballard (Linda
Blair), sees an apparition of a murdered woman, and on Dean's
insistence, helps Sam discover that the woman is a missing heroin dealer
who had been working as a police informant. To put the spirit to rest,
they must burn her body, but the woman appears and leads them to it,
hidden within a wall. A necklace on the body points to one of Diana's
colleagues, Pete Sheridan (Jason
Gedrick), as being the woman's murderer. Sam realizes that the
woman's spirit was actually a death omen warning Diana. Meanwhile, Pete
takes Dean from the police station, and drives him into the woods to
kill him. Sam and Diana are able to track them down, and Pete admits to
killing the woman after convincing her to sell heroin that he had stolen
from the station, later killing the lawyer who laundered the money and
his wife who knew too much. The spirit returns, and after distracting
him long enough for Diana to kill him, disappears. Diana lets the
brothers go so that they can continue saving people.
CROSSROAD BLUES
Sam and Dean investigate a suicide and believe a black dog may be involved. After research, they find
that the man worked at a bar ten years earlier, but suddenly became an
overnight success in architecture. They eventually realize that the dog
was a hellhound sent to collect his soul, the man having made a demonic
pact to gain his talent. However, the demon also made deals with other
people, so the brothers track down one of them, learning that he gave up
his soul to cure his wife of cancer. As Sam stays behind to protect the
man from the hellhound, Dean summons the demon at a crossroads and tricks it into stepping
into a devil's trap—a mystical symbol that contains a demon and strips
it of its power when the demon is inside of it. In exchange for her
freedom, the demon releases the man from his deal. Before she leaves,
she taunts Dean about his father's deal, revealing that John is
suffering in Hell.
CROATOAN
After Sam has a premonition of Dean killing a defenseless man, the
brothers head to Rivergrove, Oregon to investigate. There, Sam notices
"CROATOAN" carved into a pole, reminding him of the missing colony of Roanoke. They soon find
that all forms of communication have been shut down, and extremely
violent townspeople are blocking the roads out. They go to a local
doctor's office, where a doctor finds that the blood of the violent
people has been infected by a virus containing sulfur, leading Sam to
believe his father's theory of Croatoan being a demonic plague. A woman
in the office suddenly turns violent and attacks Sam. She infects him
with her blood before Dean is able to kill her. Sam tries to kill
himself, but Dean stops him. Moments later, it is learned that all of
the infected people have suddenly vanished, leaving the town deserted.
Sam has his blood tested, and finds out that he was not infected. After
the brothers leave town, one of the survivors is revealed to be a demon;
it contacts someone to inform him that Sam is immune to the virus.
HUNTED
Dean reveals that before their father died, he told him that he has to
save Sam if he can, or else kill him. A distraught Sam forgives Dean for
not telling him, but goes to the Roadhouse to try and find more psychic
children like himself. Ash's search only finds a young man named Scott
Carey, but he was murdered a month earlier. Sam heads to Indiana to
investigate, and is followed by a young woman named Ava Wilson (Katharine Isabelle). Like Sam, she has premonitions, and
foresaw Scott's death. She has also been having visions of Sam being
killed in an explosion. The two steal Scott's file from a psychiatrist,
and learn that he spoke to Azazel and was told about an army of psychic
children being used in an upcoming war. The vampire hunter Gordon
Walker, who learned from a demon about Azazel's plans, then tries to
kill Sam, but Dean stops him just in time, though ending up his
prisoner. Sam remembers Ava's vision, and avoids explosive traps set by
Gordon. He saves Dean, and police arrest Gordon due to an anonymous call
made by Sam. The brothers later go visit Ava, but find her fiance dead,
with sulfur on the windowsill pointing to a demonic abduction.
PLAYTHINGS
The brothers investigate mysterious deaths at the Pierpont Inn in
Cornwall, Connecticut. It is owned and run by Susan (Annie Wersching), a single mother who plans to sell it.
Living there with her are her mother, Rose (Brenda McDonald), and her daughter, Tyler (Matreya Fedor),
who has an imaginary friend named Maggie (Conchita Campbell). When another murder occurs while Sam
and Dean are there, Sam feels guilty and, after getting drunk, makes
Dean promise to kill him if he ends up turning evil. Later, the brothers
discover that Rose has been practicing voodoo, and suspect that she is
behind the deaths. However, she recently suffered from a stroke, and
would be unable to do so. Susan is soon attacked by a vengeful spirit,
but is saved by Sam and Dean. They then discover that Maggie is the
ghost of Rose's sister Margaret, who drowned as a child in the inn's
pool. Maggie had been kept at bay by Rose's practice of voodoo, but has
returned since Rose's stroke. Maggie does not want the family to move
away, so she tries to drown Tyler so that she can have a friend forever.
To save Tyler, Rose gives her own life, taking Tyler's place as
Maggie's eternal playmate.
NIGHTSHIFTER
Sam and Dean investigate a series of robbery-suicides in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, that involve employees stealing from their employers and then
killing themselves. A former security guard named Ronald "Ron" Reznick (Chris Gauthier) has been conducting his own research, and
believes the culprit is a "mandroid"—half man, half machine. With his
findings, the brothers instead realize that a shapeshifter is behind it
all. Predicting that the next incident will occur at a bank, Sam and
Dean pose as security workers to infiltrate the building, and eventually
discover that the shapeshifter has taken the form of the bank's
manager. However, before they can act, Ron arrives and takes everyone
hostage. The brothers convince him that they believe his theory, and
move everyone into the vault so that they can locate the shapeshifter.
It has already morphed into another person, and when they discover its
identity, it runs. Ron gives chase, but is then killed by a police
sniper when he goes in front of a window. A hostage then has a heart
attack, and Dean takes him to an ambulance outside the bank. He is
identified, and FBI agent Victor Henriksen (Charles Malik Whitfield) is called
in. Henriksen reveals to Dean that he has been tracking him since the
incident in St. Louis the previous year, when another shapeshifter
framed Dean for attempted murder. As SWAT teams enter the building, the
brothers kill the shapeshifter and escape by posing as SWAT officers.
HOUSES OF THE HOLY
When the brothers investigate murders in which the culprits claim to
have been ordered to do so by an angel, they find that the victims were a
killer and a pedophile, and that both attended the same church. Sam and
Dean then learn that a priest was shot to death outside the church.
While Sam wants to believe that it really is an angel, Dean thinks it is
the vengeful spirit of the priest. Sam is later visited by the angel,
who orders him to kill an evil man. While Dean tracks the angel's target
to make sure that the man does not do anything bad, Sam summons the
spirit of the priest (David
Monahan). The spirit believes himself to be an angel, but another
priest (Denis Arndt)
at the church convinces him otherwise and puts his soul to rest.
Meanwhile, Dean prevents the man from attacking a woman, and then chases
after him in his car. During the pursuit, the man almost crashes into a
truck, and a metal pipe on the truck falls and impales him, which Dean
believes may have been God's doing.
BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN
Dean finds Sam, who has been missing for a week, covered in blood and
with no memory of what has happened. Security footage depicts Sam
murdering a hunter. Sam tries to force Dean to kill him before he hurts
someone else. When Dean refuses, Sam knocks him unconscious and leaves.
He then visits Jo at her job and begins to sadistically play mind games
with her, but Dean arrives before he can physically hurt her. Sam again
tries to convince Dean to shoot him, but Dean throws holy water on him,
revealing a case of demonic possession. Sam shoots Dean and flees to the
home of fellow hunter Bobby
Singer (Jim Beaver). However, Bobby tricks him into
drinking holy water, and ties him up under a devil's trap. After Dean's
wound is treated by Jo, he joins Bobby in an attempt to exorcise the
demon. The ritual does not work, and Bobby learns that the demon used a
binding ritual to bind itself to Sam's body. As the demon frees itself
and attacks Dean, it reveals that it is the same demon which formerly
resided within Meg Masters. Bobby slashes the binding mark on Sam with a
hot knife, and the demon is forced to flee.
TALL TALES
After Sam and Dean have no luck in their investigation of several random
urban legends coming to life on a college campus, they ask Bobby for
help. He figures out that a Pagan trickster—a
demigod
capable of manipulating reality—is behind everything. They confront the
janitor (Richard Speight, Jr.) of the building
near where the legends occurred, who reveals his true identity. The
trickster tries to bargain with them, but the hunters attack him
instead. He retaliates by conjuring minions to defend him, but in the
end fakes his own death.
ROADKILL
As Molly McNamara (Tricia Helfer) and her husband drive along a
highway, a man suddenly appears in the road. They crash in an attempt to
avoid him, and Molly later wakes up alone in the car. The man reappears
and chases after her, but Molly flags down a car driven by the
Winchesters. She tries to show them the wreck, but the car has
disappeared. While later driving to the police, they are confronted
again by the man, but Dean drives through him, causing the ghost to
dissipate. The brothers reveal that what has been chasing her is the
vengeful spirit of Jonah Greely (Winston Rekert), who died on that roadway years earlier and
now kills drivers on the anniversary of his death. The trio locates
Greely's nearby home, and, after digging up his corpse, salts and burns
the body. With the ghost of Greely gone, the Winchesters explain to
Molly that her husband is still alive, but is now married to someone
else. Molly—having died in the same car accident that killed Greely—is a
spirit that has been reliving the same night since her death. Accepting
the truth, she moves on.
HEART
The brothers investigate a series of werewolf attacks in San Francisco
and meet Madison (Emmanuelle Vaugier), the secretary of the latest victim.
After speaking to her, they suspect her violent ex-boyfriend Kurt is the
werewolf. Dean searches for him while Sam protects Madison. There is an
attraction between the two, but Sam does not respond to her flirtation.
That night, Madison transforms into a werewolf and sneaks out; she
attempts to kill Kurt, but Dean saves him. The next day, the brothers
deduce that she had been infected during an apparent mugging the
previous month. According to werewolf lore in John Winchester's journal,
a werewolf will return to normal if his or her "sire" dies. Dean is
able to kill the werewolf, who is revealed to be Madison’s neighbor.
When she does not change the next night, they believe the curse has been
lifted. A happy Sam and Madison have sex the following night, but she
later transforms once again and flees. Not wanting to live as a monster,
Madison convinces a distraught Sam to kill her.
HOLLYWOOD BABYLON
After a stagehand is apparently killed by a spirit on the set of a
horror film, Sam and Dean head to Los Angeles to investigate. They learn
that it was only a publicity stunt, but a studio executive (Gary
Cole) soon dies at the hands of a ghostly woman—a young actress who
committed suicide in the 1920s after being seduced and then fired by a
studio executive. Though the brothers salt and burn her remains, another
producer is killed. Sam then notices that the Latin in the film's
script is an actual summoning ritual. The writer, Martin Flagg (Michael B. Silver), tells them that the rituals are from the
original script written by production assistant Walter Dixon (Benjamin
Ratner). They confront Walter, who admits that he has been summoning
spirits to get revenge against the people he believes ruined his
script. He destroys the talisman used in the rituals, but the now free
spirits kill him for what he did.
FOLSOM PRISON BLUES
Following a tip from their father's marine buddy Deacon, Sam and Dean
purposefully get themselves arrested to investigate a string of murders
in a recently reopened cell block. However, FBI agent Henriksen shows up
and attempts to extradite them. Their public
defender, Mara Daniels (Bridget White), believes that they may have been
falsely accused of many crimes, but says that they can only stall
extradition for a week. To create a distraction to allow for Sam to
follow a lead, Dean later gets into a fight with a fellow prisoner.
However, the spirit of a nurse attacks Dean in the infirmary. He defends
himself with salt, but she kills the other prisoner. Research reveals
that it is Nurse Glockner, who used to kill infirmary patients and was
later killed in a riot. Dean convinces Mara to locate where Glockner was
buried, and the brothers decide to follow their escape plan. After
getting into a fight with one another, they are taken away by a guard (Garwin Sanford)—Deacon. He helps them to escape. When
Henriksen learns that Mara supplied the Winchesters with information, he
forces her to tell him where she sent them. As the brothers dig up
Glockner's body and then salt and burn her remains, the FBI arrive at
the wrong cemetery, having been lied to by Mara.
WHAT IS AND WHAT SHOULD NEVER BE
Dean is attacked by a djinn, and suddenly finds himself in a world in which
his mother had never been killed by Azazel. He and Sam were not brought
up as hunters, and thus are no longer close. Although Dean enjoys his
new life, a ghostly young woman seems to be haunting him. When he
realizes that all the people that he and Sam had saved as hunters are
now dead, he decides that he must give up his new-found happiness to
save them. Though Sam does not believe him, he accompanies his brother
to the djinn's lair. There Dean discovers that the young woman he has
been seeing is a victim of the creature. Noticing that she is alive but
hallucinating—a way for the djinn to keep its victims captive while it
feeds—Dean realizes that he, too, is within a illusory world. Dean
forces himself awake as Sam rescues him in the real world, and kills the
attacking djinn.
ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE : PART ONE
Sam is abducted by Azazel and taken to an abandoned town. Also placed
there are Azazel's other psychic children—Andy Gallagher and Ava Wilson,
as well as newcomers Lily (Jessica Harmon) and Jake Talley (Aldis
Hodge). As Dean and Bobby head to the Roadhouse for help and find
it burned to the ground with the body of Ash buried in the wreckage,
Andy uses his mind-control abilities to send Dean his location
telepathically. That night, Sam is visited in a dream by Azazel, who
explains that he has brought them together so that they can fight to the
death, with the sole survivor becoming the leader of his army of
demons. He also reveals why he killed Sam's girlfriend Jessica, and
shows Sam the source of the psychic children's abilities—his own demon
blood. Meanwhile, Ava uses a new demon-controlling ability, and forces
an Acheri
demon to kill Lily and Andy. She then reveals to Sam that she has been
in the town since she went missing, killing off other psychic children
that Azazel has sent there. She sets the Acheri demon on him, but Jake
sneaks up behind her and uses his superhuman strength to break her neck,
causing the demon to flee. Jake attacks Sam out of distrust, but Sam
gains the upper hand and apparently knocks him unconscious. However, as
Sam is distracted by an arriving Dean and Bobby, Jake regains
consciousness and fatally stabs him.
ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE : PART TWO
Dean sells his soul to a Crossroads Demon (Ona
Grauer) in exchange for Sam's resurrection, and is given only one
year before collection is due. Ellen later arrives at Bobby's home, and
gives them a map of Wyoming that Ash had left in the Roadhouse's safe.
Research reveals that Samuel Colt—creator the Colt gun—created a
giant devil's trap using railway lines. At the trap's center is an old
cowboy cemetery, which Azazel forces Jake to go to. The hunters are
there to meet him, but Jake subdues them long enough to use the Colt as a
key to open a mausoleum. Sam then shoots Jake in the back, and finishes
him off with multiple shots as he begs for mercy. As the mausoleum
doors begin to open, they realize that it is a Devil's Gate—a doorway to
Hell. A rush of demons escape and break the iron railway lines of the
devil's trap, allowing Azazel to enter. As Ellen and Bobby try to close
the gateway, Sam and Dean take the Colt to confront Azazel.
Unfortunately, the demon catches them by surprise and takes the gun. He
taunts Dean's demonic pact and questions if what came back was "one
hundred percent pure Sam". Azazel prepares to kill them, but the escaped
spirit of John grabs him. This distraction allows Dean to take back the
Colt and shoot the demon in the heart, finally killing him. As Bobby
and Ellen manage to close the gates, John's spirit moves on.
